Indonesia and countries throughout the world have entered the Urban Age. Based on BPS data, in 2008 more than 50 percent of Indonesia's population lived and settled in urban areas, and it is estimated that in 2045 it will reach 82 percent. The development of cities in Indonesia is faced with global challenges with increasing connectivity of cities in the world characterized by increasingly open and cross-border flows of resources and information, and the closest challenge is the ASEAN economic community (AEC). On the other hand, cities in Indonesia also face challenges from within with the increasing development of city people with demands for an increasingly high quality of life in Indonesia's unique physical and social conditions.
The development of cities in Indonesia which are centers of social, economic, political and cultural dynamics is increasingly necessary and important to understand, anticipate and design so that growth does not lead to undesirable things with a comprehensive and sustainable approach. This makes it an increasingly interesting and important object of study and to be studied by both the business world, government and society in general. In this regard, we invite prospective students to join the Urban Development Studies Postgraduate Program at the University of Indonesia in studying the issue of development of cities in Indonesia using an intra/transdisciplinary scientific approach.
